Foundations
of Adult Education Blog
For this assignment, My PID-P partner Shelly and I researched (1) trend in adult learning each. Shelly choosing Podcasts and myself selecting MOOC's ( Massive Open Online Courses) we found our findings intriguing as neither of us were familiar with these trends, or their terminologies after a few discussions and sharing of opinions we found the topics interesting as both are technology based and evolved from the desire for faster and more accessible methods of learning based on flexibility and availability to students.
In my resources section in the right column you will find additional links to MOOC's and Podcasts and my partners' blog.
You will also find a link to the SIE Facebook page linking you other students blogs, and student resources at the bottom of the page..
PART 1 TRENDS
MOOC’s Acronym for Massive Open Online Courses; my
research indicates these free courses can be access 24/7. Offered by almost
1000 Universities around the world.
Enrollment is unlimited, enrollment can vary from 1- hundreds of
thousands of people. One benefit is ...
the flexibility of courses and ease of use, there is no admission process, you create an account, self enroll and begin. At the end of the program students can receive for a fee a certificate of completion from the course developed universities.

PODCASTS Are recorded spoken series of audio
episodes, covering a specific topic or theme, according to my research pods
casts are similar to YouTube videos or tedtalks, generally in audio only format.
One of the trends in podcast learning is they tend to be short , downloadable and accessed at leisure. I work with a colleague who uses Podcasts in her indigenous studies as a way of story telling, the podcasts can be brief , but she has also used them for longer teachings and reports significant student engagement. According to my PID-P partners research podcasts can last up to 3 hours.
